Extra-Financial Performance Report 2020 Groupe Roullier A GROUP WITH REAL COMMITMENT A GROUP WITH REAL COMMITMENT Extra-Financial Performance Report 2020 Groupe Roullier ZOOM #1 TIMAC AGRO BELUX COMMITS TO AN INDUSTRY-WIDE AGREEMENT To improve the energy efficiency of its production processes and reduce their CO 2 emissions, TIMAC AGRO BeLux has signed a voluntary industry-wide agreement with the Belgian Ministry for the Environment. Initiated in 2017 with a carbon balance study, this project paved the way for setting a series of major targets for 2023, including a reduction in energy consumption of around 9% and a reduction in CO 2 emissions of around 30%. The action plan provides for the introduction or upgrading of 6 installations, some of which have already been achieved, including the replacement of compressors and the installation of variable frequency drive controls for dryer dilution air fans. Others, such as the installation of a gas-fired cogeneration plant scheduled to go live in June 2021, are now in progress. ZOOM #2 RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT IS CENTRAL TO MINING AND PRODUCTION AT MAGNESITAS NAVARRAS Due to the nature of its business, respect for the environment has always been central to the development strategy of Magnesitas Navarras. Its ISO 14001 Environment and ISO 50001 Energy Efficiency certifications are therefore important demonstrations of its commitment to continuously reviewing and improving its processes, at the same time as making major environmental investments by using the best techniques available in its industry. Given the natural wealth of its ecosystem and the need to protect it, Magnesitas Navarras has also launched a Biodiversity Management Plan in those areas impacted by its Spanish mining activities at Eugi (Navarra) and Borobia (Soria). This plan goes further than the legal obligation to restore former mining areas, and sets out measures necessary for developing a range of habitats for local plant and animal species that are listed as being of special interest as a result of the role they play in the local ecology or the conservation status. Magnesitas Navarras is implementing this plan as part of its work on restoring biodiversity around its Eugi mine. ZOOM #3 CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF WOOD-FIRED BOILER ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE Fulfilling its mission of creating energy as cleanly and locally as possible, WEISS offers solutions that not only meet, but often exceed, safety and environmental standards, especially total atmospheric fume emissions. Since 2010, this subsidiary company has invested heavily in instrumentation and R&D testing to improve combustion control through a range of different simulation scenarios and feedback. The resulting optimisations have enabled it to reduce dust emissions from its installations by a factor of 15, and to cut NOx emissions by 150% . These very significant results are in addition to the 10 energy efficiency points gained over 10 years, and the positive role played by WEISS in combatting global warming. ZOOM #4 LOOP: PHOSPHEA’S GLOBAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY STRATEGY The LOOP (Let’s Optimize our Operations Performance) project introduced by Phosphea in 2018 has significantly reduced the company’s consumption of electricity and natural gas at its 5 feed phosphates production plants. The initiatives implemented cover a diverse spectrum, from the installation of variable speed drives and operated screening to optimising drying processes by installing additional insulation and reducing the amount of water introduced into the process. In addition to these initiatives, the company monitors its energy consumption on a daily basis to continue improving its performance and identifying any potential energy losses. This reduced energy consumption per tonne produced by 19% between 2018 and 2020, which equates to 21 GWh per year, or the annual energy consumption of around 2,700 French households. ZOOM #5 CAN JOINS ENTREPRISES ENGAGÉES At the beginning of 2020, The Compagnie Armoricaine de Navigation (CAN) joined the “Entreprises Engagées” not-for-profit organisation run by its trade union UNICEM (the National Union of Quarry and Materials Industries). The aim of “Entreprises Engagées” is to develop a simple, practical and realistic framework within which members can formalise their commitment, progress and add value to the actions they take, with the ultimate aim of obtaining industry-specific CSR accreditation. To secure this recognition and identify new challenges and areas for improvement, CAN decided to structure its approach around the UNICEM standard, which draws on the main strands of ISO 26000, and adapt them to the specific requirements of the industry. CAN practices and performance will then be assessed against this standard by an independent third-party body, whose rating will enable the company to see how far it has progressed. Javier Creixell, General Manager at Magnesitas Navarras 35 34 At Magnesitas Navarras, we’re working towards a sustainable, responsible, innovative, modern and environmentally friendly mining model, with the ultimate aim of positively impacting the biodiversity of our operating areas.“
