Extra-Financial Performance Report 2020 Groupe Roullier A GROUP WITH REAL COMMITMENT Extra-Financial Performance Report 2020 Groupe Roullier A GROUP WITH REAL COMMITMENT Contributing to the plastics industry transformation Concerned primarily by increased general awareness of the impact of plastics, which have come to symbolise the throwaway society, our Packaging business line has played an active role in transforming its industry over a period of years. As a manufacturer of plastic packaging for industrial and retail customers, Agriplas-Sotralentz Packaging has a significant role to play in transforming its industry into the leading force in recycling and the circular economy by taking action as early as the product design stage. It is at the very beginning of their lives that the fate of packaging products is decided in terms of the type of plastic used, its recyclability, its lifespan, the ease or otherwise of maintenance, and many other factors. This fact has encouraged our subsidiary company to completely change the way it produces some of its flagship products by combining eco- design with economy of functionality. However, making the transition from a linear economy to a circular economy involves every stakeholder in the value chain, from plastics and packaging manufacturers, their customers and public authorities to end-user consumers. The entire industry must reinvent itself if it is to succeed in the challenge of delivering this revolution. So our subsidiary company is engaged in a permanent ongoing dialogue with industry stakeholders as they work together to build the industry sectors of tomorrow. WE ARE COMMITTED CONTRIBUTORS TO THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN ORDER TO CONSERVE OUR OWN RESOURCES AND LIMIT THE VOLUME OF WASTE CREATED BY OUR PRODUCTION PROCESSES AND THE USE MADE OF OUR PRODUCTS. Recovering organic and industrial resources Our main contribution to the circular economy is designed to convert our by-products so that they cease to be a problem and become a new resource for us to recover and reuse. Therefore, we work closely with our suppliers, scientific and business partners, customers and waste collection and processing specialists to implement innovative projects for reusing organic and industrial resources. Given that only 5% of the 138 million items of organic waste produced annually in the EU is used as organic soil improvers, this is quite a challenge. The fertiliser formulations we create on the basis of using agricultural by-products make it possible to conserve natural mineral resources, at the same time as limiting losses of nutrients into the natural environment. But this initiative is not restricted solely to the agricultural industry, since it applies equally to our industrial value chain in general, and to iron and steel industries in particular, where our subsidiary company Magnesitas Navarras is a member of the first European consortium for the recovery and recycling of refractory waste. Making packaging more recyclable Looking beyond our Packaging business line, our Food Industry is also closely concerned with packaging recyclability, and is committed to leading by example to meet the high expectations of consumers around this issue. Pâtisseries Gourmandes and Maison Colibri have both been hard at work for more than a year identifying ways of reducing plastic waste and ensuring that any waste produced is recyclable. The major challenge at present is to identify a combination of materials that offer the same benefits as plastics in terms of protecting food in transit and preserving its taste and texture for several weeks. Having tested a number of alternative solutions, Pâtisseries Gourmandes is now moving towards a recyclable combination of paper and plastic packaging, and intends to introduce it for its madeleines, sharing cakes and biscuits, at the same time as favouring the use of FSC-certified cardboard wherever possible. Agriplas-Sotralentz Packaging has started its revolution and is now ready to work with recycled plastic. We see ourselves as part of the solution, and are fully committed to driving innovation forward to meet the environmental challenges involved.“ Thibaud Durand, General Manager at Agriplas-Sotralentz Packaging Target for 2025: 25% of products will contain recycled raw materials PERCENTAGE WASTE RECYCLED BY THE GROUP Pallets Plastics Cardboards and papers 82 % 68 % 80 % S o throughout the Group and all its subsidiary companies, our primary aim is to optimise our direct consumption of plastics, cardboard, paper and pallets, and recycle as much as possible. But we want to go beyond this consumption inherent to our manufacturing activities and commit ourselves to a business model for the future that reflects our belief in the reduction, reuse and recycling paradigm as a powerful lever for collective innovation in conjunction with our supplier and customer partners. This is a strategically important commitment for all our businesses, but especially in Agrosupply, where we recover by-products for use in producing, in Food through research into eco-designed packaging, and in Plastics, where we are providing active support for the transformation of the industry. 29 28 #2 CONTRIBUTING TO THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY i.e. 76% of all waste is recycled
